Held annually since the erection of the statue over a hundred years ago, this celebration is sponsored by the Greater Seattle DAR Regents' Council. It brings representatives from many civic and patriotic organizations to honor the memory of George Washington.
This year the wreath-laying will not be preceded by in indoors meeting. The wreath-laying ceremony with many wreaths placed at the foot of the statue, will commence at 11:30 a.m. at the Statue, located on the University of Washington Campus. Free, underground parking is available off 15th Ave NE at NE 41st, just north of the statue.. Click here for Google directions to the statue.
The Washington State C.A.R. has had the privilege to participate in this significant event.
Those laying wreaths should notify the GSDARRC by February 10, 2024.

Here a C.A.R. brother and sister are representing George and Martha Washington to lay the wreath on behalf of the C.A.R. She later served as State President and National Vice President for the Western Region. He later served as State First Vice President, Nation Vice President for the Western Region, and National Chaplain, then as a Senior Society President, Senior State President, and Senior National Recording Secretary.
Hundreds of C.A.R. members from throughout the nation gather outside Washington, DC every April for the annual convention.
Check back for information on the 2023 Convention. There will be both in-person and remote participation options.
Reports are given from state presidents, national chairmen and national officers, and new national officers are elected for the next year. Patriotic tours and ceremonies are included. The formal banquet and dance is always a favorite, and there are activities your the younger members who prefer not to dance.
The highlight is the installation of the new state presidents and national officers on the grounds of Mt. Vernon, Virginia, near the tomb of George and Martha Washington.
The Western Region consists of the states of California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii. Each year a regional meeting is held for those in the region. The national board members will travel to the various regional meetings to share the national programs for the year. It is a great opportunity to meet other C.A.R. members. Following the Regional Meetings, the State President often holds a summer workshop for the C.A.R. members in the State, where they review and plan the programs for the year.
Last year the summer workshop was held in conjunction with the Washington State DAR Board of Management meeting in Spokane Valley Washington.
More details will be sent to members by their senior society presidents.
